Nick Hakim
Just when it seemed like all the wow factors in the indie scene were hiding out, Nick Hakim comes out of nowhere.\r
\r
This bluesy singer-songwriter of Chilean and Peruvian descent, currently based in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn via Washington D.C., only has a few tracks out that make quite the impression. There’s a luscious, calming, mysterious quality embedded in his voice that’s inescapable and intoxicating. Dare I say he’s reminiscent of D’Angelo—simply chill and sings with ease.\r

Judging by the way Hakim approaches each word in a track, I bet he’s also a composer and multi-instrumentalist who never had a day of vocal training and learned valuable vocal techniques, such as breath control and giving the right amount of vibrato, from listening to soul, jazz, and/or gospel records. The old jams.\r

There’s a duet with him and Lianne La Havas that is clearly waiting to be made.\r
